What is Group Life Insurance?
Group cover is the default life, TPD and sometimes income protection insurance that comes with many super funds. It's convenient, but it isn't tailored to you, and in our experience it's often not enough. If your super statement shows insurance you don't remember applying for, it's group cover. (Default cover can also switch off if your account is inactive or has a low balance.)
In this video, McKern financial adviser Kristian Tangan explains the difference between group cover and tailored cover, where your needs are calculated for each type of insurance and the premiums are discussed with you before you apply.
